California State University, Chico
Recipient, William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award for Outstanding Achievement
A 42-year-old senior majoring in construction management, Kevin Brady did not follow a traditional path to a university education. Following a troubled youth and young adulthood marked by incarceration and substance abuse, he suffered disabling injuries in an automobile accident in 1996. Three years later, Kevin made the decision that would alter his life when he enrolled in Sierra College. He earned three AA degrees with a 3.95 GPA before transferring to CSU Chico in fall 2004. Kevin has continued to demonstrate academic excellence at CSU Chico where he is a member of the Construction Management Honor Society. In addition to his classroom accomplishments, Kevin has also compiled an exemplary record of leadership activities and community service, including spending a month recently in New Orleans helping to rebuild homes. Kevin plans to graduate in spring 2008, and show his son, by example, the positive value of education.
