Jeremy Allen Booker
California State University, Channel Islands
Recipient, William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award for Outstanding Achievement
After his father's murder in 1994, Jeremy Allen Booker was raised by his single mother in San Bernardino. A freshman at CSU Channel Islands, he has a passion for making the power of education accessible to those who are disadvantaged. Jeremy works as a programming assistant in the Multicultural, Women's & Gender Student Center and is actively involved in his church's youth group as well as several organizations on campus. He devotes his extra time serving as a classroom assistant for a public speaking course, where he mentors and assists students in developing confidence in their research and speaking abilities. In addition, Jeremy volunteers in the Leaders in Education Awareness Program (LEAP) on campus. After graduation, Jeremy plans to continue his education by pursuing a master's degree and then a doctorate in public administration. He hopes to "mentor others in the hopes that it will inspire more like him, not just black males, but anyone who has been told their dreams are out of reach."
