P. Kofi Baah-Arhin
California State University, East Bay
Recipient, William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award for Outstanding Achievement
P. Kofi Baah-Arhin was educated in Ghana, West Africa, and was a teacher in villages and rural areas. During that time, he encountered many bright students caught in the web of poverty. Using his own resources, Kofi sponsored the education of two pupils, one at a college and one at a trade school. Since then, Kofi has continued to make a difference in people's lives. He arrived in California in 1988 and within four months was an active member of the San Francisco community. He became licensed as a foster parent and has played a vital role in many of his children's lives. He also gives back to his homeland by leading volunteers to serve every summer in rural Africa. Kofi is currently enrolled in the Masters of Public Administration program at CSU East Bay and maintains a 3.8 GPA. He anticipates graduating in June 2008 and continuing to make positive changes in society.
