Recipient, William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award for Outstanding Achievement
Adriana Pacheco attends California State University, Monterey Bay and is a business major. One of four children, Adriana migrated from Mexico with her parents when she was three years old. As a teenager, summer vacations from school meant toiling in the agricultural fields of California's Central Coast alongside her parents, sisters and brother. From dawn to dusk, they worked side-by-side from June to August, cutting, sorting and packing cherries, apricots and peaches. Her drive to overcome the socioeconomic obstacles inherent in the farm worker way of life, coupled with the ambition to become the first in her family to attend college, continues to fuel her academic success. Adriana is pursuing her business degree to one day be able to give back to her community. Along with maintaining a 3.26 GPA, she works 20 hours per week on campus as the student assistant to the vice president for student affairs.
