The Dr. Murray L. Galinson Scholar

Recognition for the recipient who best exemplifies Extraordinary Public Service to his or her home, university, or global community
In May 2007, Dr. Murray L. Galinson, Trustee Emeritus of the CSU Board of Trustees and Chair of the Board from 2004 to 2006, endowed a scholarship fund to recognize a William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement recipient who best exemplifies extraordinary public service to his or her home, university or global community. The California State University Foundation honored his commitment to students by naming the honored individual as the Trustee Emeritus Murray L. Galinson Scholar. The Galinson Scholar receives a $6,000 scholarship.
Dr. Galinson serves on the boards of the Weingart Foundation, the Leichtag Foundation, First Dental Health Co., the Galinson Foundation, and is the immediate past chair of the board of the Jewish Funders Network. He is a partner in La Jolla MJ Management Co.
Previously, Dr. Galinson was the chairman of the board and CEO of San Diego National Bank and served on the boards of PriceSmart Co. and Price/Legacy Co. Prior to joining San Diego National Bank, he served as a professor at California Western School of Law. Dr. Galinson also served as the director of administration for the national Mondale/Ferraro Campaign, and as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of California and the District of Minnesota. He practiced law with the firm of Mullin, Galinson, Swirnoff and Weinberg in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In his seven-year term on the CSU Board of Trustees (2000-2007), Dr. Galinson participated in the development of many historic initiatives for the CSU, including those that improved graduation rates, helped to better prepare high school students for college and provided greater outreach to underserved communities. It was during this time that the CSU also gained the right to grant EdD degrees. Dr. Galinson embraces the CSU’s unique system and is proud of all that it accomplishes.
