Parent Engagement

Parents play an important role in the success of a student, especially a first generation college student.  The CSU is committed to engaging parents through meaningful activities including training, and special programing through our college fairs and  events.

The CSU collaboration with the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) educates parents about effective ways to get involved in their children’s education.  Through a nine-week parent training program, delivered by the Institute to local schools near each of the CSU’s 23 campuses, parents learn to create a college going culture at home, navigate the school system, collaborate with teachers, counselors and principals, and support their child’s emotional development.  Parent engagement classes take place at more than 115 public schools in California each year. In 2014 the collaboration reached nearly 8,000 parents across the state, influencing at least 16,000 children to prepare for college.
