U.S. Department of Education Video Highlights CSU Dominguez Hills' Support for Underserved Students
The U.S. Department of Education released a video produced especially for Spanish-speaking families that features CSU Dominguez Hills' structure of support for underserved students.
The video profiles Samantha Hernandez, a sophomore at California State University, Dominguez Hills, and shows the support she receives from her campus as she pursues an education to attain her career and life goals.

| CSU Students, Faculty, Staff and Presidents Participate at HACU's National Conference in San Diego |
Representatives from 11 CSU campuses and the Chancellor's Office promoted their academic programs, research and student opportunities at HACU's 24th Annual Conference held in San Diego on Sept. 18-19.
HACU's mission is to improve Latino access to higher education and enhance educational opportunities for Hispanic students.
In 1992 HACU led the effort to obtain congressional recognition for campuses with more than 25 percent Hispanic enrollment as federally designated Hispanic Serving Institutions. In 2010, Congress appropriated $117.4 million for HSIs under Title V of the Higher Education Act.

| Henry Cisneros Speaks at CSU Dominguez Hills |

Henry Cisneros, former Secretary of the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, spoke at the inaugural session of CSU Dominguez Hills' Presidential Speaker Series on Sept. 30.
His speech, “The Essentials of Leadership for the 21st Century,” described the new challenges that today’s college graduates will encounter as future leaders in the national and global workplace.

| Students From 17 CSU Campuses Show Their Research Findings at SACNAS National Event

The Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) and the Society of Mexican American Engineers & Scientists (MAES) held concurrent national conferences at the Anaheim Convention Center, from Sept. 29 through Oct. 3.
Garrett Ashley, CSU vice chancellor for University Relations and Advancement, delivered the keynote address to College of Engineering deans participating in the MAES National Symposium.
Ashley spoke about CSU's external partnerships to build a college-ready pipeline of students. He said that these partnerships are the pathway to success that the state and country need.
At the SACNAS National Conference, student teams from 17 CSU campuses made 98 research presentations.

CSU Promotes Steps to College at Native American Day
|
The CSU was among 37 exhibitors participating at California's 43rd Native American Day celebration, held Sept. 23 at the south lawn of the State Capitol.
Participants received college information materials and the list of 15 classes students need to take to be eligible for college.
