Chancellor's Recent Speeches
Remarks by Dr. Charles B. Reed
Thank you all for coming to our new branding and visual identity launch today.
You may have heard me say recently that the California State University is "on the move." We are starting to gain national recognition for many of our programs.
For instance, our Early Assessment Program, which 11th graders can take to see if they are ready for college, was highlighted in USA Today and other states are replicating it.
Our "Steps to College" poster has been distributed to students and parents all over California and is also a national model.
We are reaching out to the underserved populations, going out into the communities throughout California to tell students that they can succeed in college and beyond.
And most recently we have formed a partnership with the governor and the military to provide access to the thousands of servicemen and women who will benefit from a college degree.
We have great momentum and energy that we want to communicate in everything we do.
The communications team has developed a visual identity system that reflects this momentum. We have new CSU colors – red and grey – and a new CSU wordmark, which is the official "mark" of the CSU. We have also revised the seal, which now displays the CSU's founding date in numerals on the outer circle of the seal.
It is critical that we use this new branding system in all of our communications so that we project a strong and powerful image, one that reflects the quality of the CSU.
For things like printed letterhead and existing publications, you should deplete your current stock first. But we are asking you to use this new identity on anything new you develop.
I am proud of what we do here. And I want the outstanding work that all of you do to be reflected in our communications.
Use this new system. There are lots of materials and handbooks here to help you. Our communications team and web experts are on hand today to help you out as well.
Thank you for all that you do for the California State University.
