In this economic climate there is significant interest in brokering partnerships to sustain a life sciences workforce in southern California. The one-day Life Sciences Workforce Summit brought together over 120 participants from life science companies, industry associations, workforce and economic development agencies and educational institutions. The meeting shared best practices associated with "what works" in private-public partnerships for life sciences workforce development. In addition participants discussed future workforce needs and opportunities associated with this fast-moving, entrepreneurial, high-tech sector. 93% of the participants responding to a survey after the meeting said they would attend another meeting like this! CSUPERB partnered with the Los Angeles City Workforce Investment Board, the Pasadena Bioscience Collaborative, the Economic & Workforce Development division of the California Community Colleges and SoCalBio to organize and host the summit.
