Poster Session Information

There were two poster sessions at the 22nd Annual CSU Biotechnology Symposium. The Faculty Consensus Group (FCG) committee selected 219 poster abstracts from 294 abstracts submitted by student-faculty teams at 22 CSU campuses this year. As the committee reported to the FCG, 99% of abstracts were accepted in 2008 and 80% in 2009, but only 74% of abstracts were accepted in 2010. Due to increased interest and competition, CSUPERB will re-evaluate the poster session organization and acceptance criteria for 2011's symposium in southern California.

Helpful Tips for Poster Preparation

  • Be sure to include the abstract title, author names, and the institution where the work was completed in large letters at the top of the poster so symposium participants can find your poster.
  • Make sure to include an acknowledgments section, listing anyone (or any granting agency, including CSUPERB!) who might have supported or helped your work.
  • Use a type size that can be read easily from a considerable distance (4 feet or more). Try using a font size between 14 – 20 pt. Select a legible font such as Arial, Times Roman, Times New Roman, or Palatino.
  • Order your poster sections logically so that others who are unfamiliar with your work can follow your presentation. A good method is setting up your poster in a column format so that it can be read top to bottom, and then left to right.
  • Come prepared with any relevant handouts you may wish to share and business cards to hand out.
  • When choosing a background, remember that neutral or gray colors will be easier on the eyes than a bright color. In addition, color photos look best when mounted on gray.
