Program Introduction
The Glenn Nagel Undergraduate Research Award fosters excellence in undergraduate student research throughout the California State University (CSU) system in biotechnology-related research, covering a broad range of topics in cellular, molecular, chemical and physical studies of the life sciences.
This award honors Dean Glenn Nagel (CSU Long Beach), who held his students to a high level of integrity in research. Dr. Nagel was a biochemistry professor at CSU Fullerton and later worked to promote high-quality undergraduate research as Dean of Natural Science and Mathematics at CSU Long Beach. He was an active participant in CSUPERB governance from its inception in 1987 until his death in 2003 and received the CSUPERB Andreoli Faculty Service Award in 1996.
Eligibility and Requirements
The Glenn Nagel Award program is open to any CSU undergraduate student engaged in biotechnology-related research. Finalists present research posters at the CSU Annual Biotechnology Symposium to be held on January 8-9, 2010, at the Santa Clara Marriott.
The Award
A cash prize of $750 will be made to support the education of the award recipient. The remainder (maximum up to a $1,000) will be available to cover awardee's travel to a national or international scientific meeting to present the award-winning research.
