Architecture and Engineering
According to the US Green Building Council, in the United States buildings account for 65% of electricity consumption, 30% of greenhouse gas emissions, 30% of raw materials use, and generate 30% of waste sent to landfills. This is a great deal of waste that has an huge impact on the environment and economy.
Sustainable building practices conserve natural resources, improve air and water quality, and protect ecosystems and biodiversity.
While it can be more expensive to construct, buildings that use sustainable practices have lower operating costs. There are a number of examples, however, of green buildings that cost no more than those using normal construction techiques. They also improve employee productivity and satisfaction by making the building a healthier and more comfortable place to work.
CSU has committed its self to sustainable building practices by incorporating the local geography in building design, minimizing operating costs maximizing energy and water efficiency, and choosing materials and systems who’s total life cycle, from manufacture to replacement, minimize environmental impacts.
