SFM Reviews Not Required for Maintenance and Repairs

Renovation work requires SFM review and approval. In-kind repair and maintenance work generally does not.

Reasonable judgment must be used in this regard as renovation is a matter of degree. A roof replacement is considered a renovation and requires SFM review. A roof repair would be considered maintenance and would not require SFM review. Use good judgment. Contact CPDC or SFM for clarification on specific situations.

SFM Informal Design Review Meetings

SFM is supportive of early discussions and concept reviews to facilitate the design approval process. On larger or complex projects design progress meetings are particularly encouraged. Meetings can be scheduled on campus or at SFM Sacramento. Contact SFM Sacramento to schedule these meetings.

SFM Construction Field Reviews

Campus shall contact SFM Sacramento to initiate project construction field reviews. Provide a two-week lead time for initial scheduling. For major capital projects SFM should be included by the campus as a part of the initial construction kick-off meeting.

SFM Title 19 Inspections of Existing Facilities

The SFM is required under Title 19 to provide periodic condition inspections of existing CSU facilities. While SFM inspections tend to focus on greater- risk facilities such as science buildings, high rises (buildings over 75 feet tall), larger assembly spaces, and student housing complexes, all CSU facilities are subject to review.

CPDC requested that SFM check-in with campus Facility Planning departments for all on-campus visits in order for campuses to be able to facilitate full access and be well-informed of SFM areas of concern. Campuses are asked to contact CPDC with any comments regarding the SFM condition inspection program.
