Monday: Successfully Managing A/E Agreements and CSU Document Processes
This is a two-part, fast-paced, overview course targeted to project managers, building coordinators and other campus individuals involved in the hands-on administration of CSU Capital projects.
Part 1 – A/E Agreement
An essential overview of the A/E Agreement and a review of recent updates.
This session will cover:
- Key changes to the Agreement
- Using the updated agreement to its fullest
- Preparing exhibits for maximum effect
- Writing effective scopes and ESAs
Part 2 – The CSU Document Process
The CSU, as our own “building official,” processes projects differently than other public
agencies as well as private institutions. This session will focus on how projects process
through the CSU from schematic design through preparation for bid.
This session will cover:
- The CSU Procedure Guide and proposed updates
- Interface with the A/E Agreement
- Schematic design and Board of Trustees approval
- Effective management of the CSU document process leading to approval to bid
Numerous real-life project examples will be used to illustrate the CSU document process.
Tuesday & Wednesday: Construction Management Procedures
This program is designed for new CSU staff who are the construction administrators and/or contract specialists who understand construction contracts and contract regulatory specifications, and who will administer the construction contract in compliance with the numerous state statutes governing public works.
This training session shall review CSU policies, procedures, and processes for construction management of major capital outlay projects. We will cover the various phases during construction and include the laws and policies which apply. We aim to highlight the more critical issues during construction, which include, but are not limited to: the pre-bid meeting, bid and award phase, change orders and claims, project completion, and performance reviews and audits.
Attendees will be provided with a comprehensive policy and procedure manual, which is written around the role of the “Construction Administrator,” or the person who is responsible as the trustees’ representative during the construction phase of a project.
The session will also address Design Build & CM at Risk: explaining and reviewing CSU authority and problems and benefits of using these two alternative project delivery methods. The Model and Guidelines for each contracting method will be reviewed, and past experiences and lessons learned will be shared.
Thursday: Claims Avoidance and Other Claims-Related Topics of CSU's General Conditions
This program is designed for campus planning and project management staff.
Jeff Defeo with Pinnacle One will be addressing claims-related issues vs. CSU’s 2008 Contract General Conditions, specifically Articles 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7. He will also discuss potential delay abuses and costs and provide examples from actual projects, including an analysis of a loss of productivity claim.
This is a return engagement to the CSU for Mr. DeFeo. He always receives high marks on his evaluations. You will not want to miss this important workshop.
