STEM Engaged Learning

With 23 campuses spread across nearly every region of the state, the CSU plays a vital role in providing hands on education to California’s future workforce. Higher education is the antidote to poverty, crime, violence. An investment in higher education is an investment in the fabric of California.”

Chancellor Timothy P. White

In July 2014, the CSU Center for Community Engagement (CCE) launched the first systemwide AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program, CSU STEM VISTA: Building Institutional Capacity for a Stronger Baccalaureate.

Fifteen outstanding individuals were selected to serve in CSU STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) departments or colleges to increase student success at the college and K-12 level, particularly among traditionally underrepresented students during the 2014-2015 academic year. Recruitment for VISTA hosts and VISTA positions for the 2015-2016 academic year will begin in November 2014, so please visit us again.

CSU STEM VISTA members have a variety of roles: addressing issues of poverty, empowering communities, building organizational capacity, and developing sustainable solutions.
