Evaluation
During the first year of this initiative, (STEM)2 had many successes and identified important challenges to be addressed for the future. Our annual evaluation (.pdf) details the program’s efforts to develop innovative academic approaches and engage students, campuses and communities in service learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Highlights from 2010-2011
- 983 additional CSU students participated in STEM service-learning courses over baseline numbers in 2008-2009.
- 49 new STEM service-learning courses were added from 2008-09 to 2010-11.
- More than 30 STEM service-learning courses were developed and will be offered in 2011-12.
- 18 CSU faculty participated in an Engaged Department Institute for Sciences and 100% reported increased competence in their ability to incorporate service learning into their STEM courses.
- Over 6,000 K-12 students participated in STEM activities facilitated by CSU students and faculty.
- More than 60 CSU faculty, staff, students and alumni served as volunteers, judges, interpreters and facilitators at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
- A manual on STEM student success was developed for dissemination throughout the CSU.
