American Association of Colleges and Universities
The American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) is the leading
national association concerned with the quality, vitality, and public standing of
undergraduate liberal education. In 2003 AAC&U formed a partnership with Campus Compact
to create the Center for Liberal Education and Civic Engagement.

American Democracy Project
A recent initiative of AASCU, American Democracy Project
(ADP) is a multi-campus initiative that seeks to create an intellectual and experiential
understanding of civic engagement for undergraduates enrolled at institutions that are
members of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
California Service Corps
California Service Corps (CSC) seeks to provide meaningful forms of volunteerism and
service to the people of California who want to strengthen and support their state
through service. CSC also financially supports existing programs that apply for
AmeriCorps grants.
Community-Campus Partnerships for Health
Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH) is a nonprofit organization that
promotes health through partnerships between communities and higher educational
institutions. Founded in 1996, CCPH is a growing network of over 1000 communities and
campuses that are collaborating to promote health through service-learning,
community-based participatory research, and other partnership strategies.
Campus Compact
Campus Compact is a national coalition of more than 950 college and university
presidents-representing some 5 million students-who are committed to fulfilling the
civic purposes of higher education. As the only national higher education association
dedicated solely to campus-based civic engagement, Campus Compact promotes public and
community service that develops students' citizenship skills and provides resources and
training for faculty seeking to integrate civic and community-based learning into the
curriculum.
California Campus Compact
California Campus Compact, affiliated with national Campus Compact, is a membership
organization of college and university presidents leading California institutions of
higher education in building a state-wide collaboration to service as critical
components of higher education.
Coalition of
Urban & Metropolitan Universities
The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) brings together
universities that share the mission of striving for national excellence while
contributing to the economic development, social health, and cultural vitality of the
urban or metropolitan centers served.
Corporation for National
and Community Service
The mission of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) is to
provide opportunities for Americans of all ages and backgrounds to engage in service
that addresses our nation's educational, public safety, environmental and other human
needs.
Learn and Serve America
Learn and Serve America, a grant making program within
CNCS, supports and encourages service-learning throughout the United States, and enables
over one million students to make contributions to their community while building their
academic and civic skills.
AmeriCorps
AmeriCorps, often known as the "domestic Peace Corps,"
engages citizens in structured community service over a defined period. Individuals who
become "AmeriCorps members" commit to a certain number of hours and, in return, receive
a living allowance and an education scholarship.

Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
The Carnegie Foundation is a major national and international center for research and
policy studies about teaching. Its mission is to address the hardest problems faced in
teaching in public schools, colleges and universities-that is, how to succeed in the
classroom, how best to achieve lasting student learning, and how to assess the impact of
teaching on students.
Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement
The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE)
promotes research on the civic and political engagement of Americans between the ages of
15 and 25.
Community-Campus Partnerships for Health
CCPH has developed a number of tools and resources for service learning and
community-based participatory research.
University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Higher Education Research Institute
The Higher Education Research Institute (HERI), based at the University of
California, Los Angeles, serves as an interdisciplinary center for research, evaluation,
information, policy studies, and research training in postsecondary education.
National Service-Learning Clearinghouse
The National Service-Learning Clearinghouse (NSLC), a program of Learn and Serve
America, operates America's premier website supporting the service-learning efforts of
schools, higher education institutions, communities, and tribal nations. NSLC is the
nation's largest library of service-learning materials, listservs, and reference and
technical assistance services.
New England Research Center for Higher Education
The New England Resource Center for Higher Education (NERCHE) focuses on colleges and
universities as workplaces and organizations and brings to this mission a clear
commitment to collaboration, community building, and support for institutional change
and innovation.
Public Policy Institute of California
The Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) is a private, nonprofit organization
dedicated to improving public policy in California through independent, objective,
nonpartisan research. Research focuses on three program areas: population, economy, and
governance and public finance.
UC Berkeley Service Learning Research and Development Center
The UC Berkeley Service-Learning Research and Development Center was established in
the School of Education in 1994 to help better understand the implications of service
activities on teaching, learning, and schooling.
