Pomona: Applying Languages to the Real World

In a Spanish applied linguistics course, students pursue Spanish linguistics in the community through translation and community service. Students have an option to either use their knowledge of the Spanish language to assist self-represented litigants at the Self-Help Legal Access Center in Pomona with legal documents or assist dual-immersion (English/Spanish) students at Think Together after-school sites with Spanish grammar, spelling, and other assigned homework. Completing nearly 30 hours of service each, students share their language to empower youth and their community.
