Northridge: Engineering Better Production for Special-Needs Nonprofit

Northridge

Graduate students in a manufacturing systems engineering course worked with New Horizons, a nonprofit organization employing special needs individuals, to help to improve their assembly and packing process. CSUN students observed New Horizons’ current practices and offered suggestions for improvement based on course content. The students also helped train New Horizons employees how to incorporate lean manufacturing techniques into their process. Through this involvement, CSUN students helped New Horizons to grow and further enhance its impact on the special-needs community.
