CAPP/WestEd Instructional Leadership Initiative Workshop

Featuring Special Guest Speaker Rick DuFour
Participants will:
- Learn how to build high performing Professional Learning
Community (PLC) teams
- Identify critical action steps that schools must take
to ensure high levels of learning for all students
- Examine one high school's "collective response" when students
don't learn and begin to design your school's "collective
response"
- Analyze intellectually challenging student work to calibrate
performance standards statewide, to increase the rigor of
scoring guides and to design an instructionally sound plan
for reteaching.

- 8:30 a.m. - Noon: Workshop: "Professional Learning Communities
at Work", Presented by Dr. Rick DuFour
- Noon - 1:00 p.m. - Lunch
- 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Small-group work: Analyzing Student

Rick DuFour Bio:
Richard DuFour, Ed.D., served as Superintendent of Adlai E.
Stevenson High School District 125 in Lincolnshire, Illinois
from 1991 to 2002. From 1983 to 1991, he was the Principal
of Stevenson High School. During his tenure, the school became
one of the most recognized and celebrated high schools in
America.
He is the author of five books, more than 50 professional
articles, and is a featured columnist in the Journal of Staff
Development. He is the nation's expert on building high performing
Professional Learning Communities to enhance student achievement.
His inspiring stories of real work in high schools help teach
the key ideas and guiding principles of Professional Learning
Communities. Participants in the CAPP Conference in June read
his article published in the May 2004 Educational Leadership,
What Is A "Professional Learning Community"? Currently, Dr.
DuFour presents workshops and consults with school districts
across the United States, Canada, and Japan. We are honored
to have him work with us at our Instructional Leadership Initiative
(ILI) Conference on January 21
