1996-1997 Employee Compensation Increases

Represented Employees

UNIT 1: PHYSICIANS (also see Tech Letter HR/SA 96-10)
  • 2.61% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1996
  • 1.0% Service-based Salary Increase (SSI) - Effective on employee anniversary date.
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $31,200 effective July 1, 1996 excluding associated benefit costs. PSIs may be augmented with campus funds. Unspent funds shall be added to the PSI pool in the next fiscal year. (See Performance Pay memo dated August 6, 1996 for campus pool)
  • LTD insurance coverage up to 50% of base salary after one-year of disability (no cost to employees). - Effective September 1, 1996 (Estimated full-year systemwide cost of $21,300)

UNITS 2,5,7 & 9: CSEA (also see Tech Letter HR/SA 96-12)
  • 2.48% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1996
  • 2.0% Service-based Salary Increase (SSI) - Effective on employee anniversary date.
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $2,397,000 effective July 1, 1996 excluding associated benefit costs. PSIs may be augmented with campus funds. Systemwide funds must be spent during 1996/97. (See Performance Pay memo dated August 6, 1996 for campus pool)
  • Shift differential increases from $.33 to $.55 for evening and $.38 to $.67 for night. - Effective July 1, 1996.
  • Equity adjustments for specified classes approximating a 4% increase (classes: 7926, 7927, 8134, 8150, 8151, 8153, 8154, 8156, 8157, 1099, 1100, 1101, 1102, 1144, 2935, 2936, 7169, 7170)
  • Minimal additional internal equity adjustments for classes 1741 (1.76%) and 1740 (1.10%).

  • 2.31% General Salary Increase (GSI) for all classes except counselors and student services professional - academic related (SSP-AR) - Effective July 1, 1996
  • 3.0% General Salary Increase (GSI) for counselors and SSP-ARs only - Effective July 1, 1996
  • 1 Service-based Salary Increase (SSI) for all classes except counselors and SSP-ARs - Effective on employee anniversary date.
  • 2 Service-based Salary Increase (SSI) for counselors and SSP-ARs only - Effective on employee anniversary date.
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $7,050,000 effective July 1, 1996 excluding associated benefit costs. Unspent funds shall be added to the PSI pool in the next fiscal year. (See Performance Pay memo dated August 6, 1996 for campus pool)
  • Employer paid Health benefit rate return to Gov't Code for Unit 3 resulting in a 2.3% savings for 1996/97 unit health costs (this includes the savings due to 1996/97 health Gov't Code rate reductions over 1995/96). Unit 3 utilized health benefit savings to finance parts of its 1996/97 compensation package.
  • DMD class transition to regular faculty salary schedule effective January 1, 1997.

UNIT 4: ACADEMIC PROFESSIONALS (also see Tech Letter HR/SA 96-10)
  • 2.49% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1996
  • 1 Service-based Salary Increase (SSI) - Effective on employee anniversary date
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $467,000 effective July 1, 1996 excluding associated benefit costs. May spend up to the designated pool amount but not over. PSIs may not be augmented with campus funds. (See Performance Pay memo dated August 6, 1996 for campus pool)

UNIT 6: SKILLED TRADES (also see Tech Letter HR/SA 96-10)
  • 2.84% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1996
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $221,200 effective July 1, 1996 excluding associated benefit costs. (See Performance Pay memo dated August 6, 1996 for campus pool)
  • Asbestos rates have increased from $2.50 to $3.00 per hour - Effective July 1,1996.
  • Employer paid health benefit rate increase above Government Code - $5 for single, $10 for double, and $20 for multiple enrollment.

  • 1.26% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1996
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $79,500 effective July 1, 1996 excluding associated benefit costs. Unspent funds shall be added to the PSI pool in the next fiscal year. (See Performance Pay memo dated August 6, 1996 for campus pool)
  • Employee paid retirement costs are fully funded for eligible unit 8 employees. Approx. a 11.8% increase to unit retirement costs paid by CSU for 1995/96.

UNIT 10: SKILLED TRADE, CMA
  • 3.0% General Salary Increase (GSI) - Effective July 1, 1995
  • 3.0% Service-based Salary Increase (SSI) - Effective on anniversary date.
  • A Performance-based Salary Increase (PSI) pool of $5,400 effective July 1, 1996 excluding associated benefit costs.
