Tuition Fee Discount Funding

General Fund support for the Tuition Fee Discount program remains at the $33.8 million level of support funded in 1992/93. In March 1993, the CSU Board of Trustees unanimously approved the framework for a new student fee and financial aid policy that called for dedicating a set-aside (e.g. one-third) of annual incremental fee revenue increases to augment the Tuition Fee Discount program. Absent additional increases in state support for the Tuition Fee Discount program, the Board approved set-aside of fee revenue is the only source of increased funding for CSU institutional grant aid.

Annual reviews of campus-reported data on eligible financial aid applicants and recipients are used to determine the number of students who qualify for Tuition Fee Discounts and the total funding for which they are eligible based on enrollment status, fees paid, and the level of their expected family contribution. Preliminary 2012/13 estimates reflect 131,699 CSU students received Tuition Fee Discounts out of 237,170 eligible students.
