Explanatory Notes
1. The census dates for this report were the end of the third week of instruction for campuses on a quarter system and the fourth week of instruction for campuses on a semester system.
2. Enrollment type is based on the number of semester or quarter credit units for which a student was enrolled on the census date as follows:
Part-time students - fewer than 12 credit units
Full-time students - 12 or more credit units
As of Fall 1994, for postbaccalaureate/graduate students only:
Part-time students - fewer than 9 semester or quarter hours.
Full-time students - 9 or more semester or quarter hours.
3. Admission basis categories of "regular" (admits), "exceptional," and "other" are defined briefly in explanatory note 8.
4. Students identify themselves by ethnicity in one of the following groups:
- African American. All persons descending from any of the black racial groups of Africa (except those of Latino origin).
- American Indian or Alaskan Native. All persons descending from any of the original people of North America, and who maintain cultural identification through tribal affiliation or community recognition.
- Asian American. All persons descending from any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian Subcontinent. This area includes, for example, China, Japan, Korea, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Taiwan, India, and Thailand.
- Filipino. All persons descending from any of the original people of the Philippine Islands.
- Mexican American, Mexican. All persons descending from any of the original people of Mexico.
- Other Latino. All persons descending from any of the original people of Central America or South America , including persons having origins from Cuba, Puerto Rico, other Caribbean Islands, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race (except Mexican American).
- Pacific Islander. All persons descending from any of the original peoples of the Pacific Islands (except Filipinos). This area includes, for example, Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, Guam, Fiji, and the Marshall Islands.
- White Non-Latino. All persons descending from any of the original people of Europe, North Africa, the Middle East (except those of Latino origin).
- Unknown. Students having an ethnic group code of "No Response," and "Declined to State" are grouped together in this report as "Unknown." This group also includes students whose ethnicity cannot be classified into one of the identified groups.
5. As of fall 2006, percentages of enrollments by ethnicity includes "Nonresident Aliens" and "Unknown". Prior to the fall 2006 reports, enrollments were summarized by ethnic group after first excluding "Nonresident Aliens." Students having an ethnic group code of "All Other Responses," "No Response," and "Declined to State" were grouped together in this report as "Unknown."
6. Enrollments in undergraduate programs (Table 4) include all undergraduate students, freshman through senior, plus postbaccalaureate students seeking a second bachelor's degree.
7. Enrollments in master's programs (Table 6) include only those students classified as students seeking a master's degree. Postbaccalaureate and doctoral students are not included.

9. Enrollment in the Statewide Nursing Program is now included in Dominguez Hills.
10. As of fall 1999, International Programs are included in all statistical reports.
11. Beginning fall 2008, fall reports will be posted with resident-only data as well as the total enrollment data.
12. Beginning Fall 2010, fall reports will be posted with non-resident-only data as well as resident-only and total enrollment data.
13. The release of the CSU Graduate and Undergraduate 2009-10 Application on October 1, 2008, marked the beginning of the transition to a new data collection process for ethnic and race data that was mandated by the Federal Government. In 2010-11, all ethnic and race data listed in the Statistical Reports will reflect the new data collection process.
