1. This report is based on the Student Enrollment File (ERSS) of the Enrollment Reporting System.
2. The census date for this report is the close of the third week of instruction for campuses on a quarter system and the fourth week of instruction for campuses on a semester system across all terms that comprise the college year. Enrollments are in terms of the net number of students actively enrolled on the census date.
3. The academic year includes fall, winter (if applicable), and spring semesters. The college year begins with the summer term which is followed by the fall, winter (if applicable), and spring terms.
4. Six of the campuses are on a quarter system that includes a winter term, while the remaining campuses are on a semester system. CSU Stanislaus has an academic year consisting of two 13-week semesters and a 4-week winter term. College year enrollments are calculated as follows:
- Semester campuses: average of fall and spring term enrollments plus one half of summer enrollment.
- Quarter campuses: average of fall, winter, and spring enrollments plus one third of summer enrollment.
- Stanislaus: average enrollments are calculated by combining the fall, winter, and spring terms weighted by 13, 4, and 13 with one half of summer enrollment.
- Summer Arts summer enrollment is divided by 2.
- International Programs and CalStateTEACH: average of term enrollments.
5. Full-time equivalent students (FTES) are calculated using student level as follows:
- Undergraduate and postbaccalaureate full-time equivalent students (FTES) by term are derived by dividing total semester or quarter term credit units attempted by 15. Annual undergraduate and postbaccalaureate full-time equivalent students, whether for annualized summer, academic year, or college year FTES, are derived by dividing total semester student credit units attempted by 30 or total quarter student credit units attempted by 45. Annual Stanislaus, Summer Arts, International Programs, and CalStateTEACH undergraduate and postbaccalaureate FTES are calculated by dividing total student credit units attempted by 30.
- Graduate full-time equivalent students (FTES) by term are derived by dividing total semester or quarter term credit units attempted by 12. Annual graduate full-time equivalent students, whether for annualized summer, academic year, or college year FTES, are derived by dividing total semester student credit units attempted by 24 or total quarter student credit units attempted by 36. Annual graduate FTES for Stanislaus, Summer Arts, International Programs, and CalStateTEACH are calculated by dividing total student credit units attempted by 24.
6. Regular students are those individuals who attempt 6.1 student credit units or more during a term. Limited students are those individuals who attempt six or fewer student credit units. As a consequence of the relatively small workload being attempted, limited students are charged reduced student fees.
7. College Year headcount enrollment and full-time equivalent student (FTES) totals are often displayed to one decimal place in this report even though they are calculated to six decimal points in the software. Systemwide headcount enrollment and FTES results may therefore differ if campus totals are summed employing different rounding rules.
8. For purposes of this report, class level for undergraduates is determined by the value found in the Enrollment Reporting System data element Student Level Code.
Campuses typically determine student level for undergraduates by the number of accumulated semester or quarter credit hours as follows:
Freshman||Fewer than 30||Fewer than 45|
Sophomore||30 to fewer than 60||45 to fewer than 90|
Junior||60 to fewer than 90||90 to fewer than 135|
Senior||90 or more||135 or more|
9. A postbaccalaureate student holds an acceptable baccalaureate or its equivalent and has not been admitted to a graduate program. Postbaccalaureate students in this report are split into those seeking a basic teaching credential (single subject, multiple subject, or special education) and all other postbaccalaureate students.
10. A graduate student holds an acceptable baccalaureate or its equivalent and has been admitted to a graduate program. The distinction between graduate and postbaccalaureate students is based on the information reported in the Enrollment Reporting System data element Student Standing Code.
11. The College Year Report differentiates student credit units by the level of the course (lower division, upper division, or graduate) being attempted. Annualized student credit units (SCU) by course level are calculated for semester campuses by determining the student credit units being attempted at each level of course and dividing the result by 2. Quarter campus annualized student credit units (SCU) by course level are derived by dividing the student credit units being attempted at each course level by 3.
12. "Campus Totals" refer to enrollments for campuses, excluding supplemental programs operated by the CSU. "System Totals" include enrollments for Summer Arts, International Programs and CalStateTEACH. Beginning in college year 1998-99, Statewide Nursing is included in Dominguez Hills enrollment.
13. Tables 1 through 4 describe both term and college year data. Additional college year summary information is shown on tables 5 through 8. College-year new student information is presented in tables 9 to 21. The remaining tables comprising the College Year Report (22 to 29) depict headcount and academic year data that are useful in the enrollment planning process.
14. Resident and nonresident tables are based on fee status. Prior to 2006-2007 residence status did not reflect fee exemption. Students residing in another U.S. state or possession and those students residing in a foreign country pay nonresident fees. All other students pay California resident fees. Citizenship alone does not determine fee status.
