CSU Campuses Must Seek to Curb Enrollment Growth
California's new state budget, signed by Gov. Davis on August 2, will slow the California State University's enrollment growth from 7 percent to 4.3 percent. The CSU now expects to enroll approximately 414,000 students for 2003-04, a record total, but still lower than the 424,000 students that the university had originally anticipated.
Responding to the enrollment funding reductions, many of the CSU's 23 campuses have taken action to scale back enrollment growth for the spring 2004 admission cycle. Several campuses have either closed admission for the spring, limited admission for specific groups of students, shortened the application window, or issued caution that admission is not guaranteed and that applications may be returned.
Students who are interested in applying for admission in spring 2004 are urged to familiarize themselves with restrictions at their desired campus, and to complete admission applications for open campuses as soon as possible.
For the latest status of spring enrollment rules at each campus, visit CSUMentor's Application Filing Status page, then select either "graduate" or "undergraduate" and "Spring 2004" from the pull-down menu. Excerpted with permission from the CSU Leader.
How to Get to College Posters Now Available
The Boeing Company has given the CSU a gift of $50,000, which the CSU has matched, to help print 500,000 "How to Get to College" posters for distribution to California middle and high school students. The award-winning poster, which has been in heavy demand since its creation in 1999, offers a step-by-step guide to the classes students need to prepare for the CSU or the UC. The new English and Spanish versions of the posters are available at the following url:
