CSUMentor - The CSU Online Application Information Center
Q: When can students begin appying for fall 2004?
A: Students may access and submit the fall 2004 admission application through CSUMentor beginning October 1, 2003.
Q: When will all applicants need to apply online?
A: All undergraduate and graduate students applying for fall 2005 and later (beginning October 2004) will need to apply electronically via CSUMentor at www.csumentor.edu. Applying electronically ensures applicants complete all questions on the application and that they do so with greater accuracy. Applying online also decreases the time between submission and receipt by the campus and improves the application processing time required by the campus.
Q: What if applicants do not have accessibility to a computer?
A: As a result of this requirement, paper applications will no longer be printed and generally distributed. The California State University recognizes that there will be instances in which a student may not have access to a computer or other extenuating circumstances that may prevent a student from filing an electronic admission application. In these instances, the student may need to file a paper admission application. Therefore, the California State University Chancellor's Office website http://www.calstate.edu and http://www.csumentor.edu will maintain a print-friendly version of the admission application online that may be downloaded and printed by counselors, students, families, and the general public. In such cases, these paper applications will have the same priority for admission as electronic admission application submitted through CSUMentor. In addition, provisions will be made for computer access to those students who prefer to file an electronic admission application. The provisions will vary by campus. Some campuses will provide access to computers for applicants to complete and submit applications. Other campuses have staff available to input data provided by the student. Campuses make necessary provisions to ensure that students are not inconvenienced.
Computers are available on campus, at the school where students are currently enrolled, in public libraries, and at some work locations.
Campuses have the absolute obligation to find a way to assist every student who needs to use a paper application or access to a computer in order to apply for admission to the California State University.
Q: Is there any advantage to applying online?
A: Absolutely! Students who apply online:
- Complete the application with greater accuracy with the built in "edits" embedded in the electronic application;
- Do not waste valuable time trying to applying to a campus that is closed or does not offer the major of choice;
- Will hear from campuses faster than if applying via a paper application;
- Can pay by credit card or can find out immediately if they qualify for an application fee waiver;
- Receive a confirmation page verifying that the application was sent to the campus of choice;
- Receive (in some cases) an email confirmation directly from the campus.
- Receive online and telephone support while completing the electronic admission application.
Q: Is there a site where counselors can learn about completing the application?
A: In response to counselor comments, a special section on CSUMentor is being developed for counselors to guide students in using CSUMentor and completing the application. In addition, applicants can call a toll free number (1-800-GO-TO-XAP) during normal business hours if there are questions about completing the application.
