Improvements to CSUMentor Planned for October 2005

CSUMentor is CSU's online outreach, preadmission, financial aid, and admission program that allows students to apply for admission electronically. CSUMentor continues to be enhanced to respond to the needs of students and their families, counselors, and CSU campuses. For students using CSUMentor beginning October 2004, several changes are being implemented to help students decide to which campus to apply and to complete the application. The following is a summary of some key enhancements.

  • A modular and comprehensive site tutorial will provide CSUMentor users with information on how to utilize the tools and information provided on the website. The user will have the option either to review a comprehensive site tutorial or to click on a specific module of the tutorial for a review of that module. Two tutorials will be provided for the undergraduate application. One will be targeted to students -- consisting of a screen-by-screen tutorial with explanations and definitions of all of the questions on the application. The second tutorial has been developed to provide counselors and educators tools to assist students as they explore college opportunities.

  • Campuses will have the ability to post major events and programs in the Campus Tours module so that students and counselors can learn more about the campus community. We hope students will choose to visit the campus for specific events.

  • Campuses will be allowed to provide information about their branch and satellite sites to help students and counselors understand opportunities available to attend classes at more convenient locations.

  • The Application Filing Status Report will be enhanced to provide information about campuses that are no longer accepting applications for a particular term.

  • Students can use either a debit or credit card for application fee payment.

  • The 2005-06 online applications are being modified to provide more accurate information. Xap will add many enhancements to the current undergraduate and graduate admission application, including, but not limited to the following:

      • The Undergraduate Online Application will calculate the high school GPA, using CSU rules for calculation. It will be displayed, but cannot be manually modified by the applicant. This new field will replace the old GPA field.
      • The 'Honors' title within each high school course entry will be changed to read 'Honors/AP/IB.

      • The drop down menu in the foreign language area within the undergraduate application will be modified to include Formal Schooling in a Foreign Language. The pop-up for this option will ask the students to enter Pass as a grade for both years and note that the campus will contact them for further information.
      • For security purposes, the SSN field for the undergraduate and graduate applications will be modified input stars (*) for the numbers. To provide a more accurate SSN, the confirmation SSN will not allow the applicant to paste in the number from the above field or enter in all zeros and nines.

      • The Main/Off Campus question on the CSU Undergraduate online application is being modified to a dynamic field and will be displayed only for campuses that have an off-campus site.
      • Students will be able to input their Analytical Writing score for the GRE in the graduate application.
