California State University, Stanislaus

Established in Turlock, California in 1957, CSU Stanislaus enrolls nearly 8,000 students. The picturesque 225-acre campus offers modern facilities, including new residence halls, a faculty development center, a music recital hall, an educational services building, Bio-Ag dome and professional schools building. A new Science II complex is scheduled for completion in fall 2007. It is located within a close-knit community with low crime and scenic surroundings.

CSU Stanislaus prides itself on its faculty and academic programs. Eighty-six percent of the faculty hold a doctoral degree or its equivalent. This year, for the first time, CSU Stanislaus landed a choice spot among the top-tiered schools in the West in "U.S. News and World Report" magazine's "America's Best Colleges" 2005 edition. The University has enjoyed strong ratings every year since 1995 for its high freshman retention rate (83%), 17 to 1 faculty-to-student ratio, high diversity (26% Hispanic) and low student debt rate (29%). Officials credit a strong focus on first-year student retention programs for the high retention rate.

As a university located in an area where fewer people attend college than the rest of the state, CSU Stanislaus takes very seriously its responsibility to provide higher education opportunities to a wide range of learners, including first-generation college students, working parents and returning students. Personalized outreach, schedule flexibility and off-site as well as distance learning centers contribute to the fulfillment of the University's charge. Many of its 29,000-plus alumnae and alumni remain in the region and give back to the community.

A firm believer in the power of partnerships, the University proactively seeks linkages with local business entities as well as educational institutions around the globe to enhance the intellectual, cultural, scientific and economic quality of life of citizens in the state. All CSU Stanislaus academic programs are fully accredited. Specific disciplines are accredited by their respective national associations, such as Art, Chemistry, Music, Nursing, Psychology, Public Administration, Social Work and Theatre. The University received the highest possible rating during its accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The College of Education received accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Most recently, the College of Business Administration received accreditation by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) - the leading international business education accreditation agency.
