Science & Technology

• Assisted in the discovery of six new superheavy elements—elements 113 through 118—as part of a team that included scientists from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and Russia's Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions.
• She and her colleagues achieved consensus in naming of element 114 flerovium (after G. N. Flerov) and element 116 livermorium (after the town of Livermore and the many nuclear scientists that have worked on heavy elements at lab). These names were officially adopted by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.
• She and her spouse, Mark Stoyer, also a member of the research team, enjoy speaking in K-12 and college classrooms about their love of science.
• Recently she traveled to Russia for a celebration dedicated to the naming of flerovium and livermorium.
