• Raised in the small California farming community of McFarland and first in family to go to college.
• Served as executive director of Girl Scouts-Joshua Tree Council for seven years, helping girls develop character and skills.
• Appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the State Compensation Insurance Fund Board of Directors in 2007.
• Active in the local community, including serving as chairwoman of the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce for 2011.
