- Serves as executive director of the Marine Exchange of the San Francisco Bay Region, a nonprofit membership organization that was founded in 1849 and is the second oldest corporation in California.
- Member of the first class of women to attend a service academy in 1972 and the first woman to command a United States commercial vessel.
- Served as general manager of marine operations at Matson Navigation Co. where her responsibilities included managing the safe and efficient operation of the 14 vessels owned or operated by Matson in the Pacific Basin trades.
- During her employment at Matson, she was instrumental in creating the "Zero Garbage Discharge Program" designed to avoid the overboard discharge of any solid waste into the ocean. This was the first of its kind in the world and one that significantly exceeded all government regulations.
