- Helped usher in and define West Coast fusion through his innovative collaboration with fellow musicians Jean-Luc Ponty and Frank Zappa.
- In 1990, named R&B Keyboardist of the Year by Keyboard Magazine for the second consecutive year; produced numerous Grammy Award-nominated and Grammy Award-winning singles and albums for world-famous recording artists.
- Acted as musical director for numerous artists and televised specials, including the Soul Train Music Awards, NBC's Sunday Night Show, presidential inauguration celebrations, and Disney's concert, For Our Children, to benefit the Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
- In 1992, served as musical director for the largest guitar festival in history held in Spain.
- His philanthropic work has included championing efforts to aid battered women's shelters in New York, AIDS research, world hunger and homelessness.
