Legislative Profile: Nathan Fletcher

Thirty-two years of age, an Ironman Triathlete, a former Marine reserve who served two tours of duty and married to an influential Republican, Assembly member Fletcher seems to be ready to move up in California politics.

As a freshman Republican member, Assemblyman Fletcher was named the Vice Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, the Select Committee on Biotechnology, and the Select Committee on Rail Transportation. He is a member of the Accountability & Administrative Review, Water, Parks, & Wildlife, and Housing & Community Development Committees. Additionally, he sits on the Select Committees on Foster Care, Child/Adolescent Health and Safety, Healthcare Workforce Access, and Safety and Protection of At-Risk California Communities.

Mr. Fletcher notes that he is “committed to demanding transparency and accountability from government, creating new jobs in California, expanding the access and affordability of health care and working to solve the water crisis affecting the Golden State.”

Prior to his service in the Assembly, Mr. Fletcher served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserves as a Counterintelligence/Human Intelligence Specialist. During his service, he was deployed twice, once working in the Horn of Africa region, and once serving eight months in the Sunni Triangle region of Iraq.

Mr. Fletcher continues his loyalty as a former Marine by advocating for America’s veterans and as a life member of both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War. Before being elected to the state legislature Nathan served as an appointed member of the San Diego County Veterans Advisory Council. Mr. Fletcher’s wife, Mindy, served as Deputy Campaign Manager and Deputy Chief of Staff for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. She also worked for President Bush in Texas and on his campaign for President. He is a graduate of California Baptist University.

Lastly Assembly member Fletcher has taken to keeping up with his constituents by using all that modern technology has to offer and currently boasts a “Twitter” account where individuals can go to see what he is currently focused on and any action he is taking.
