Chancellor Supports Algebra for Eighth Grade
On July 9, the State Board of Education had an item dealing with California eighth grade mathematics standards and testing requirements. The item, held over from both the March and May agendas, had become a controversial topic, with the debate occurring in the press, in blogs, and in heated discussions by the business community, the education community and the public. At issue, was whether the state would stick to new eighth grade standards and what type of test the State would administer to eighth graders at the end of the year. More »

Capital Outlay: CSU and UC Letter to Gov. Schwarzenegger
In January, Gov. Schwarzenegger's proposed 2008-09 budget included approximately $1.6 billion to fund capital facilities and projects for the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC). This proposal was dependent upon the passage of a November general obligation bond that would provide funding to address capital facility needs for all public sectors over the next two years. More »
