Governor Appoints Member to CSU Board of Trustees
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has appointed Margaret Fortune to the CSU Board of Trustees. Fortune, 36, has served as a senior advisor to the governor since 2006. Earlier this month, Ms. Fortune was named Chief Executive Officer of Project Pipeline, a Sacramento-based non-profit organization that credentials public school teachers.
Since 2005, Ms. Fortune has served Governor Schwarzenegger in various departments, where she is known to be a hard worker that always “gets the job done.” Prior to working for the governor, Ms. Fortune served as the superintendent of St. Hope Public School, a Sacramento-based K-12 charter school, serving more than 1,800 students. Since assisting in the conversion of Sacramento High School into a charter school, test scores have increased and the school now has an 87 percent college going rate. Ms. Fortune also served two years as assistant secretary in the Office of the Secretary for Education, chair of the Commission on Teacher Credentialing and as a member of the California Children and Families Commission
Ms. Fortune’s appointment still needs to be confirmed by the Senate. She will step in as the newest CSU trustee and will bring her considerable experience in education to bear in benefit of the CSU and its students. She has particular interest in teaching issues. Ms. Fortune earned a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of California, Berkeley. |
