State Agencies/Departments
- California Department
Of Education
California's public education system is administered at the state level by the
Department of Education, under the direction of the State Board of Education and
the Superintendent of Public Instruction. The functions of the department in
administering the state's education programs include policy development and
coordination, curriculum and management assistance, and program and plan review.
- State Board of Education
State statutes and court precedent place the State Board of Education as the
policy setting agency for the state's K-12 Education system. Appointments to
the Board are made by the Governor.
- Commission on Teacher
Credentialing
The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing was established in 1970, with
the specific charge of ensuring excellence in education by establishing high
standards for the preparation and licensing of public school educators . The
Commission carries out its program of standards for the preparation and
licensing of teachers through five program elements: Certification, Assignment
and Waivers; Professional Services; Professional Practices; Agency
Administration; and Policy and Programs.

- California Teachers Association
The California Teachers Association is the state's largest professional employee
organization, representing more than 300,000 public school teachers, counselors,
psychologists, librarians and other non-supervisory, certificated personnel.
- Association of California School
Administrators
The Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) is a professional
organization for K-12 school administrators in California. Formed in 1971, the
mission of ACSA is to support California's educational leaders, and ensure all
students have the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel.
- California School Boards
Association
The California School Boards Association represents nearly 1,000 school
districts and county offices of education statewide. It's purpose is to support
the governance team in K-12 school districts school board members,
superintendents and senior administrative staff in their leadership roles.

Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE)
Founded in 1983 as a cooperative venture between the schools of education at the
University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University, PACE is an
independent policy research center whose aim is to enrich education policy
debates with sound research and evidence.
- Center for the Future
of Teaching and Learning
The Center for the Future of Teaching and Learing is a public, nonprofit
organization whose goal is to increase the capacity of California's teaching
work force to provide a rigorous and balanced curriculum that challenges
students' learning potential and ensures their continuing intellectual, social
and ethical development.
