CSU ADN to BSN Nursing Roadmaps

Not many people have the opportunity to reinvent themselves after 30 years in a profession. The CSU Sacramento RN-to-BSN program did just that for me in 2008. Through their program, I was able to fulfill a lifelong goal of achieving my bachelorís degree. Having worked in a myriad of capacities throughout my long career, I hadnít felt compelled professionally to improve my educational status, but thought of it more instead as a personal goal. I couldnít have been more wrong. The program went beyond what I learned in nursing school in 1978, incorporating advancements in evidence-based practice, technology, research and culturally competent care, to name a few areas. Working full time while going to school is challenging, but even rusty brains like mine can thrive. Currently, I work full time in the Pre-op/Recovery Room area at Sutter Roseville Medical Center in Roseville, California. The faculty inspire me. They make me think of the possibilities for improving the health of our nation. They make me consider the social ecology of the patients who arrive at the bedsides I serve. They make me want to deliver care in ways I had not imagined in my 34 years of practice.
