Associate Vice Chancellor and Deputy General Counsel

Andrew Jones is the Associate Vice Chancellor and Deputy General Counsel for the California State University.  Andy coordinates with the Executive Vice Chancellor and General Counsel in supervising the operations of the Office of General Counsel and overseeing all legal services for the 23-campus California State University system.  Andy joined the Office of General Counsel in October of 2000 and has served in a variety of capacities.  From 2000 to 2013, Andy served as University Counsel, and was assigned responsibility for serving as the principal lawyer for various campuses over the years.  Most recently, he was the University Counsel for CSU Long Beach.  He served for 10 years as the Team Leader for the Business & Finance Team, and currently serves as the systemwide resource attorney on bond financings, governance and open meeting laws, Title 5, land records and real estate issues.  In 2013, Andy served as Interim General Counsel and Secretary to the Board of Trustees. 

Andy is “made in the CSU,” and a product of the California higher education system.  During his four years as a student at CSU Long Beach, he worked five days a week at the local community college and graduated in the top 1% of his class (4.0 GPA) from CSU Long Beach with a B.S. in Business Administration.  He went on to earn his J.D. degree at the University of California, Davis, where he received the Outstanding Advocate Award and served as Chair of the Moot Court Board. 

Prior to joining the CSU, Andy was in private practice and was a partner in the Los Angeles-based firm of Adams, Duque & Hazeltine, and later was a partner in his own firm, Myers & Jones, LLP.  While in private practice, Andy handled a wide variety of litigation, including business disputes, defense of insurance bad-faith actions, and employment litigation.  He also has experience acting as general counsel for various business entities.  After 15 years in private practice, Andy returned to the CSU in 2000 to serve the institution that gave him his start.
