
Don W. Kassing
President, San José State University
Prior to his appointment as President, Don W. Kassing served as Interim President (2004-2005) and as Vice President for Administration and Finance (1993-2004) at San José State University.
As the Vice President for Administration and Finance, Kassing was responsible for six major administrative units on campus: Administrative Systems and Finance, Facilities Development and Operations, Human Resources, University Police Department, University Computing and Telecommunications and Spartan Shops, Inc. As Chief Financial Officer, he held overall responsibility for all business and financial affairs of the campus, including the financing and construction of the new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library and the Campus Village project. He also served as Treasurer of the University Foundation and provided administrative oversight to all auxiliaries.
Kassing has spent nearly three decades in higher education in Illinois, Kentucky, Colorado and California. In addition, he spent 11 years in finance and operations management in the corporate sector for Brown Group Inc. and General Motors Corporation.
His professional memberships include the National Association of College and University Business Officers, the Society for College and University Planning, and the College and University Personnel Association. He also is a member of the San José Sports Authority Board, the United Way Silicon Valley Board and the United Way Community Impact Committee.
Kassing earned his bachelor of science degree in economics, with a minor in mathematics, from St. Louis University, where he also earned his MBA.
