Section 508 Web Standards
(l) When pages utilize scripting languages to display content, or to create interface elements, the information provided by the script shall be identified with functional text that can be read by assistive technology.
What does it mean?
Web pages using scripts will have text alternatives within the scripts that can be read by assistive technologies.
How to evaluate
Content on web pages will have alternative text associated with the use of the script itself. Scripts including pop-ups, pull down lists, mouse overs, form submissions, and page redirects are read by screen readers and other assistive technologies. When the scripts are turned off, the material on the page is readable. An alternative way to access the function is provided when the pages using scripts are not accessible. Scripts are located in the source code.
