Commendation in Honor of Academic Senator and Faculty Trustee (Emerita) Kathleen Kaiser

WHEREAS, Senator Kathleen (Kathy) Kaiser has served the California State University system since 1972, spending two distinguished years as Faculty Trustee and seventeen illustrious and out-spoken years as a CSU Academic Senator, including service on the Academic Preparation and Education Programs Committee, the Academic Affairs Committee, the General Education Advisory Committee, and countless subcommittees, ad hoc and other, and has served as chair and in key leadership positions on most; and

WHEREAS, Senator Kaiser knows thousands of acronyms for all of the CSU, UC, and Community College committees, subcommittees, and programs, including using the acronyms as nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives as in CANNING a course, IGETC you if you GETC me; and

WHEREAS, Senator Kaiser has no equal when it comes to creating metaphors to explain and advocate academic policy, such as her recent statement to the CSU Chico Academic Senate: "We haven't had as healthy a growth in graduate programs in many cases as we might and I think we're in sort of the position of an ingrown toenail, sometimes you need to have an outside person say, 'Well, this needs to be cut.' And just because you're familiar with it you say, 'No, no, no, it's my toe, I'm used to it, I can live with it that way!'"; and

WHEREAS, Senator Kaiser's passion and devotion for the Florida State Seminoles and Duke Blue Devils, is only exceeded by her love of the CSU (maybe); and

WHEREAS, Senator Kaiser’s passion for students has manifested itself through numerous plenary statements and has been institutionalized in CSU admission policies, transfer priorities, General Education pathways, academic policies, teacher education programs, and mentoring; and

WHEREAS, Kathy has served as Chico State’s strongest supporter in multiple appropriate and inappropriate ways; and

WHEREAS, Kathy has mentored Academic Senators throughout her career in the ways of the Senate in its formal work and after-hour activities; therefore be it

RESOLVED: That the ASCSU extend our most heartfelt gratitude to Senator Kathy Kaiser for her dedicated and valuable leadership and service to shared governance in the CSU system; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the ASCSU wish Senator Kathy Kaiser much happiness and success in all of her future endeavors, both personal and professional.
