Commendation of Dr. Elizabeth Ambos, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Research Initiatives and Partnerships

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ambos has served the California State University (CSU) through six years
of meritorious service as Assistant Vice Chancellor of Research Initiatives and
Partnerships at the Office of the Chancellor; and
WHEREAS, CSU faculty and students have benefited from Dr. Ambos’ knowledgeable and well-considered
contributions, particularly in initiatives that furthered faculty and student
research, and created numerous meaningful and productive partnerships that resulted,
in part, from her acquisition of significant grant and contract support from federal and
state government, and private foundations; and
WHEREAS, Prior to assuming her position at the Office of the Chancellor, Dr. Ambos was
recognized by colleagues at California State University, Long Beach, as an
outstanding Professor of Geosciences; and
WHEREAS, Her exceptional administrative talents were equally recognized and she was named
Associate Dean in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Graduate
Dean, and Associate Vice President for Research and External Support at California
State University, Long Beach; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her impressive academic career, Dr. Ambos authored or co-authored
more than 30 peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters, made over 80
presentations at professional conferences, and was awarded or assisted in the
acquisition and management of more than $60 million in research grants, bringing
national recognition to the CSU through her accomplishments as a scholar, teacher,
and leader; and
WHEREAS, During her years at the Office of the Chancellor and as a liaison to the Academic
Senate CSU (ASCSU), Dr. Ambos has been instrumental in maintaining substantive
faculty and student research initiatives throughout the CSU, even during extremely
difficult financial times; therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the ASCSU recognize and applaud Elizabeth Ambos’ unwavering dedication to
the CSU, its faculty, mission and, most importantly, the students that we serve; and be
it further
RESOLVED: That the ASCSU congratulate Elizabeth Ambos upon her being named the Executive
Officer of the prestigious Council on Undergraduate Research, which membership
includes over 600 institutions and 7,000 individuals, and offers our sincerest thanks
and wishes for great success as she opens this new chapter in her illustrious career;
and be it further
RESOLVED: That this resolution be distributed to the Board of Trustees, campus Presidents, and
campus Senate Chairs
