Endorsement of the January 2012 Online Education White Paper

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University (ASCSU) acknowledge
receipt of and endorse the Online Education White Paper; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the ASCSU commend members of the subcommittee of its Academic Affairs Committee for their drafting of the Online Education White Paper; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the ASCSU commend members of its Academic Affairs Committee for their thorough review of the issues surrounding the Online Education White Paper; and be it
further

RESOLVED: That the ASCSU endorse the Online Education White Paper, including the recommendations regarding online education policies at each campus, faculty consideration of online policy components, and best practices for faculty teaching online courses; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the ASCSU distribute this resolution and paper to the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, the Calstate Online Board, campus Presidents, campus Senate Chairs, campus Provosts, campus Directors of Information Technology, the California Faculty Association, and the California State Student Association.

RATIONALE: As more faculty move toward utilization of online educational strategies, the development of online educational policies with specific policy components and the adoption of best practices for faculty teaching online course becomes essential. The Online Education White Paper was designed to provide faculty and other stakeholders with information regarding central issues in this area. Key points regarding policy development and implementation as well as faculty best practices were presented in this paper and are described in the attached Executive Summary.
