Recognizing the Integration of Sustainability into California State
University (CSU) Academic Endeavors

RESOLVED: The Academic Senate of the California State University (ASCSU), recognize the important contributions made by faculty, staff, and students as well as the necessity to continue the ongoing integrations of sustainability into CSU course offerings, curricula, and academic programs; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the ASCSU acknowledge that California and CSU continue to serve as national models for proactive approaches to sustainability education; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the ASCSU distribute this resolution to the Board of Trustees, campus Presidents,
campus Senate Chairs, and the California State Student Association (CSSA).

RATIONALE: Sustainability issues and policies have and continue to be incorporated throughout many CSU educational programs and academic curricula. A recent resolution in support of sustainability principles within the CSU was also developed by the California State Student Association (CSSA). The incorporation of sustainability principles and undergraduate Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) education is addressed in a funded grant project that the CSU will be participating in from March, 2012 to February, 2015. Additional examples of faculty efforts to incorporate sustainability education within academic curricula is available from a number of sources including CSU Academic Affairs (http://www.calstate.edu/app/programs/ECS/CSU_Enviro.pdf) and from CSU faculty from individual campuses such as Chico (http://www.csuchico.edu/sustainability/index.shtml), and San Francisco (http://www.sfsu.edu/~sustain/academics.html).
