Support for Proposed Title 5 Changes Related to Baccalaureate Degrees Completed
in Postbaccalaureate Standing

ATTACHMENT TO AS-3025-11/AA
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University (ASCSU) support the
proposed changes to Title 5, California Code of Regulations related to baccalaureate
degrees completed in postbaccalaureate standing and urge the Board of Trustees to adopt
the proposed recommended changes; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the ASCSU distribute this resolution to the CSU Board of Trustees, CSU
Chancellor, Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer, campus Presidents,
campus Senate Chairs, and CSU Provosts/Vice Presidents of Academic Affairs.
RATIONALE: Current Educational Code 66055.8 states that students with an earned
bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution who are enrolled in CSU
Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree programs are not required to complete courses
other than those required for completion of the nursing major. The proposed Title 5
changes would extend this non-requirement to all majors. Proposed benefits of these
changes include streamlining baccalaureate degree pathways, accelerated completion
of second baccalaureate degrees, and enhanced numbers of graduates ready to enter the
workforce.
