Commendation
for Dr. Michael J. Perkins

WHEREAS, Michael J. Perkins served the San Diego State University (SDSU) Senate in various capacities for two decades during which he was at one time or another:
- First Library representative to the Academic Resources and Planning
Committee
- At-Large member of the Senate Executive Committee
- Secretary of the Senate
- Member of the University Research Council
- Member of the Blue Ribbon Committee on Freedom of Expression
- Member of the Committee on Copyrights and Patents, and
- Member of the University Grants Programs Committee
; and
WHEREAS, Michael has been a long-time, active member of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) on both the local and national levels, serving:
- During 1999/2000 as President of the San Diego Chapter, which hosted
the SLA Southwest Regional Conference that year
- As the Government Relations chair of the San Diego Chapter, keeping
members informed of pending or passed legislation that affected
libraries.
- At the national level in the business and finance division, SLA's largest. He was
instrumental in establishing a listserv for its members and was its first monitor
; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of this outstanding service to his university and to his profession, the SDSU Alumni Association honored him with its prestigious Monty Award for Outstanding Faculty in 2003; and
WHEREAS, Michael was elected by the faculty of SDSU as an Academic Senator of the California State University, where he served on the:
- Teacher Education & K-12 Relations Committee
- Academic Affairs Committees
- Archives Advisory System-wide Committee, and
- Education Doctorate Faculty Consultation Group
; and
WHEREAS, In all his years of dedicated service he has combined profound knowledge with abundant good sense, good will, consistent good humor, good fellowship, and high personal ethos, in addition to Aristotelian good looks and gift of rhetoric, therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU bestow its thanks and gratitude upon Michael J. Perkins for his exemplary service and contributions; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU wish health, happiness, and longevity to our esteemed Senatorial colleague, Michael J. Perkins.
