ATTACHMENT TO AS-2843-08/AA (Rev)
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate California State University (CSU), recommend to the Chancellor the adoption of the recommended revisions to Executive Order 595: “CSU General Education Breadth Requirements,” recommended by the General Education Advisory Committee (GEAC) and the General Education Affinity group, and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU, commend the (GEAC) for its excellent work for the last four years.
RATIONALE: The Executive Order 595: “CSU General Education Breadth Requirements” had not been revised in the past twenty years. In seeking to modify this document for use in the current time, the GEAC, over a three-year period, submitted several surveys to the CSU campuses for suggestions for revisions. In general the consensus was not to revise the basic structure and content of the document. The GEAC thus has focused on refinement of the language of the document in terms of contemporary concerns and concepts. Upon receipt of the final report of the GEAC, the Academic Affairs Committee sent the revised Executive Order 595 to campuses for one last perusal and input. In addition, the document was discussed at the February 28, 2008 meeting of the General Education Affinity Group and these suggested revisions have been incorporated in the revised Executive Order document. Given the extensive consultation, it is the judgment of the Academi Affairs Committee that the document is ready for approval by the Academic Senate CSU.
