Two guest speakers have accepted invitations to address the Academic Conference, hosted by Chancellor Timothy P. White, and scheduled for November 13-14, 2014 at the Long Beach Hilton. Suzanne Mettler, whose recent book Degrees of Inequality: How the Politics of Higher Education Sabotaged the American Dream, has been widely praised (and is reviewed in this issue), will address the conference on Friday, November 14. Mettler is the Clinton Rossiter Professor of American Institutions at Cornell University and a fellow at the Century Foundation.

Kevin Finneran, director of the Committee on Science, Engineering, and Public Policy (COSEPUP) at the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in Washington, DC, and editor-in-chief ofIssues in Science and Technology, a quarterly policy magazine published jointly by the National Academies, Arizona State University, and the University of Texas at Dallas, will speak on Thursday, November 13. Finneran is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Further details about this year’s Academic Conference are forthcoming.
