A California State University Strategic Plan to Succeed Cornerstones

In July 2006, the California State University Board of Trustees requested that at the September meeting the Board receive a report concerning CSU accomplishments under Cornerstones, the systemwide strategic plan adopted initially in January 1998, together with a proposal for a successor strategic planning exercise. The July 2006 resolution may be viewed at the Board of Trustees website.

In September 2006, the Board received and discussed the requested report, which may be found elsewhere on this web site. The Board subsequently adopted the following resolution.

RESOLVED, … that the California State University will undertake a strategic planning exercise to succeed Cornerstones, to establish specific program objectives, set priorities, and guide resource allocations over the next several years. Such a process shall be organized and conducted in the manner described in Attachments 1 and 2 to this item. General themes of the planning process shall be "Access/Outreach" and "Excellence." It is the intent of the Board of Trustees that the resulting strategic plan will be presented for consideration by the Board prior to the end of the 2007-2008 academic year.

The adopted resolution quoted immediately above can be found on the Board of Trustees website.

The Board of Trustees September 2006 Agenda item, comprising a description of the strategic planning to be undertaken and including the referenced attachments, is available for download (PDF).

The Cornerstones Implementation Plan, adopted in 1999, provided the yardstick against which the report concerning CSU accomplishments under Cornerstones was developed.
