Description
This course incorporates the concepts from Music Theory I. In addition, through guided composition and analysis, the course will include: non-dominant 7th chords; secondary/applied chords; modulation to closely-related keys; sequences: diatonic and modulating; binary and ternary forms; and an introduction to two-part counterpoint.

Course Topics
Must include but are not limited to:
1. non-dominant 7th chords
2. secondary/applied chords
3. modulation to closely-related keys
4. sequences: diatonic and modulating
5. binary and ternary forms
6. introduction to two-part counterpoint
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Construct any interval up to a P12 above and below a given note.
2. Visually identify all intervals up to a P12.
3. Write and identify any 7th chord in root position and inversion.
4. Realize a figured bass using non-dominant 7th chords, secondary/applied chords, diatonic and modulating sequences, and modulation to closely-related keys.
5. Harmonize a given melody using non-dominant 7th chords, secondary/applied chords, diatonic and modulating sequences, and modulation to closely-related keys.
6. Conduct harmonic and formal analysis of music using non-dominant 7th chords, secondary/applied chords, diatonic and modulating sequences, and modulation to closely-related keys in binary and ternary forms.
7. Compose music using non-dominant 7th chords, secondary/applied chords, diatonic and modulating sequences, and modulation to closely-related keys in binary and ternary forms.
8. Apply principles of 1st and 2nd species counterpoint.
